At least those schools are gun free zones, so they should be safe.

quite true but the reason for the closeness does matter. we have several dangerous plants where I live and all are kept away from population zones
PapaFox - April 23, 2013, 8:04 am
It could also be a case of a small plant initially built, then grew much larger to the point it was unsafe to be immediately adjacent to the town. But yeah, same principle either way.
Renza - April 23, 2013, 7:59 am
if it was built before, the town should have done it further away, if it it was after, the plant should have been further away. Same principal in either case.
ipaprime - April 23, 2013, 7:55 am
when was the plant built before or after the area around it was inhabited
Renza - April 23, 2013, 7:25 am
Yeah, I believe they're still looking into the cause, though whoever did the zoning there clearly didn't put much thought into it. Even if it was guaranteed not to explode, it seems a bit close to everything for a fertilizer plant.
StoneTools - April 22, 2013, 11:44 pm
The comparison is totally bogus. Unless you have some inside information on what caused the fire and explosion. Last thing I read, the cause was still under investigation.
PapaFox - April 22, 2013, 10:37 pm
I cannot believe you actually typed that. Seriously? We'd all be better off if our cars were rolling death traps?
Rudedog - April 22, 2013, 10:01 pm
The use of a tragedy to further enhance a political posture. " More government regulation is good, look what happened in Texas."

BERNIE MADOFF - Disapproves of Government Financial Regulation.

Apologies on that raw nerve.
Rudedog - May 5, 2013, 9:22 pm
Sorry, my bad. I live in Texas and the West tragedy hit close to home. And the Rick Perry image will always elicit an emotional response. ( not a big fan).

All done under Democrat Presidents...

It is pretty comprehensive. There is blame for everyone. Not sure about "sweat shops" being capitalism's fault. One can say the same for the mafia. As for the Pinto, evolutionary design. Everything has a fatal flaw. You can only make people so safe.
Texmil - February 8, 2013, 10:37 pm
CRA forced many banks and encouraged lenders to cut corners because the govt wanted them to. The government also failed to regulate as Congress weakened them. The same goes with AIG which is part of it. Recommend you read "The Devils are All Here."
Texmil - February 8, 2013, 10:35 pm
So much wrong with this: Three Mile Island proved the engineering worked (no one died) vs Chernobyl. Regulators failed. I'll give you Love Ca***. A great deal of the Housing Bubble was as much the government's fault as the private sector.

AMERICA - Seriously, we need to take the hate down a notch.
